Your body part is placed into the paraffin bath, which is held at around 50 degrees. When removed, the paraffin sets, retaining the heat and this warms, sooths and moisturizes. The hands or feet are placed in a plastic liner and then into special mittens or socks to retain the warmth and intensify the process. After 15 -20 minutes, all is removed and a light massage is applied. |
Paraffin wax is able to absorb and retain a great amount of heat. Through heat transfer and heat fusion as the wax in liquid form before application and then becomes solid on the affected area –this heat is transferred to the core of the body part treated. At the same time, the heat from the paraffin opens pores and increases circulation in the skin and secondarily to the joint and muscles. |
